Maroon 5's 'Animals' Video Blasted by Sexual Assault Group
"No one should ever confuse the criminal act of stalking with romance"read more
Maroon 5's music video for "Animals" is a bloody affair that may be strictly fiction to some, but RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network) has released a statement expressing disappointment in the video, which it says glorifies troubling stalking behavior.
"Maroon 5's video for 'Animals' is a dangerous depiction of a stalker's fantasy — and no one should ever confuse the criminal act of stalking with romance," said the sexual assault organization.
The video co-stars Behati Prinsloo as she is hauntingly watched and pursued by her real-life husband, band frontman Adam Levine.
"The trivialization of these serious crimes, like stalking, should have no place in the entertainment industry. Survivors everywhere can get help 24/7 through the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE and online.rainn.org."
Billboard reached out to a rep for the band, but did not immediately receive a response.
