Friday Night Lights alum Aimee Teegarden will topline Heart Beats 3D, a Bollywood meets Hollywood dance feature from Duane Adler, the writer who kickstarted the Step Up franchise.
Myriad Pictures is handling worldwide sales on the project and introducing it in Toronto.
Sriram Das (November Man) is producing via his Das Films banner along with Guneet Monga and her company Sikhya Films.
According to the producers, Teegarden will play "a feisty female American hip-hop dancer who travels to India with her family for a wedding and falls in love — both with a new style of dance and with a determined young man who introduces it to her."
Tiger Shroff is in talks for the role of the Indian love interest.
The film is scheduled to shoot in India in the first quarter of 2015.
Music will be a key component of the film. Adler and the producers are planning on having Bollywood and hip-hop stylings created expressly for the film.
Adler penned the first Step Up movie, which launched a very profitable franchise for Summit, and received credit on the subsequent movies for creating the characters. In 2013, he wrote and directed the dance movie Make Your Move, which stared Derek Hough and BoA.
Teegarden counts Disney movie Prom and Scream 4 among her feature credits, and she recently starred in The CW’s Star-Crossed. She just finished shooting A Change of Heart, a comedy directed by High School Musical helmer Kenny Ortega.
