'Enemy,' 'Orphan Black' Win Big at Directors Guild of Canada Awards

The Jake Gyllenhaal starrer Enemy, directed by Prisoners' Denis Villeneuve, won the best film prize at the Directors Guild of Canada Awards on Saturday night.

The Canadian psychological thriller also earned Patrice Vermette the best film production design prize and Matthew Hannam the best film picture editing honor. On the TV side, the Canadian directors kudofest named the homegrown sci-fi series Orphan Black as the best TV show, with co-creator John Fawcett winning for best TV series direction.

Enemy and Orphan Black earlier this year dominated the Canadian Screen Awards.

Enemy, which stars Gyllenhaal as a mild-mannered history teacher chasing his doppelganger, won five trophies in all at the Canadian film and TV awards, including best director for Villeneuve. And Space's Orphan Black, also a hit show for BBC America, where lead Tatiana Maslany plays seven look-alike characters, won 10 trophies in the TV competition at the Screenies.

Elsewhere on Saturday night, Mikhail Lukachevskyi's A White Day, a Russian film about a group of strangers traveling home on a dark and frozen Siberian night, won the best dramatic feature award at the 15th imagineNATIVE Festival awards show.
